Descriptive Summary:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing healthcare by enhancing diagnostics, treatment and disease management. This presentation will focus on the fundamental concepts and types of AI. Current applications for AI, technological advancements, and opportunities and limitations of AI in healthcare, will be explored.

Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Describe the fundamental concepts and various types of AI;
- Explain the potential applications for AI in healthcare given the current state of technology; and
- Discuss limitations regarding the immediate use of AI technologies in practice.
10:30 am — “Implications for the Healthcare Workforce”
Presenter:
Erik Abel, PharmD, MBA
Descriptive Summary:
This presentation will focus on how AI is reshaping healthcare amid current and projected worker shortages. AI’s role in augmenting healthcare workers’ capabilities, optimizing workflows, improving patient outcomes and addressing staffing challenges will be addressed. The regulatory, legal and reimbursement considerations with AI technologies will be discussed. Opportunities for collaboration between AI systems and healthcare teams to deliver personalized care and navigate ethical considerations will be explored.

- Understand how AI integration in healthcare impacts various professions;
- Discuss how AI collaboration can enhance patient care and outcomes, including by addressing workforce shortages across disciplines; and

Using AI to enhance patient diagnosis and treatment represents a paradigm shift in healthcare. By leveraging machine learning algorithms to analyze vast datasets, clinicians gain unprecedented insights into each patient’s unique medical profile, enabling more accurate and timely diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. Providers can make decisions with greater confidence, improving patient care and outcomes. This presentation will focus on how AI can help with the diagnosis and treatment of patients and strategies for deploying AI in healthcare settings.

- Understand how AI can be leveraged to improve differential diagnosis;
- Explain how AI can assist with the diagnosis of rare diseases and optimal pharmacologic management; and

1:30 pm — “The Future of AI In Healthcare”

AI is poised to transform healthcare, promising a future where healthcare is more efficient, affordable and effective. This presentation will focus on how AI offers solutions to three major healthcare challenges: reducing administrative burdens on healthcare workers, lowering healthcare costs and enhancing population health.

Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Explain the role of AI in reducing administrative burdens by automating routine tasks, reducing administrative burdens and mitigating burnout among healthcare workers;
- Recognize the potential of AI in lowering healthcare costs by improving efficiency, reducing waste, and enabling more accurate diagnoses and treatment plans; and
- Discuss the impact of AI on population health through the analysis of large datasets to identify trends, predict disease outbreaks and inform public health interventions.

This continuing medical laboratory education activity is recognized by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) for four (4) CMLE credits. ASCP CMLE credits are acceptable for the ASCP Board of Registry Certification Maintenance Program.

An application has been submitted to the Commission for Dietetic Registration (CDR) for four (4) continuing education units.
Imaging Technologists
This course is approved by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) for four and one half (4.5) Category A continuing education credits. The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) accepts ASRT Category A credits.

This course is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for four (4) continuing education credits.

This course is approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) for four (4) continuing education credits.

This course is approved the New York State Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. (NYSOTA) for four (4) contact hours (New York licensees only).
Paramedics/EMTs
This course is approved by the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of New York City for four (4) EMS CME credits.

The New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists (NYSCHP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

Licensed NYS Social Workers are required to provide a NYS license number to receive certificate of credit. This course is approved for four (4) continuing education hours.

Members must have been a part-time or full-time employee for at least one year, work at least three-fifths of a regular workweek, and work for an employer who contributes to the 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund or the 1199SEIU Greater New York Education Fund.
City of New York Education, Child and Eldercare Fund Members
Pharmacists, Dietitians, Clinical Laboratory Practitioners and LPNs must have worked with NYC Health + Hospitals or a mayoral agency for at least one year.
Registered Nurse Training and Job Security Fund Members
Members must have been a part-time or full-time employee for at least one year and work for an employer who contributes to the 1199SEIU/Hospital League Health Care Industry Registered Nurse Training and Job Security Fund.
